A Monument of Socialist Realism
Constitution Square is the central point of the Marszałkowska Residential District (MDM), built in the 1950s on the ruins of pre-war Warsaw. It is the most representative example in the city, and in all of Poland, of monumental socialist realist architecture, featuring sculptures of leading workers and huge candelabras.
Highlights of the Square
MDM Architecture
Huge residential blocks with grand colonnades and sculptural details depicting miners, steelworkers, and farmers.
Marszałkowska Street
One of the capital's main streets, widened after the war to accommodate military parades and May Day marches.
Museum of Life under Communism
A nearby museum that fascinatingly depicts the realities of everyday life in communist Poland.
